Bretby Gammatech Wins Regional Business Award

Bretby Gammatech wins Burton Mail small business of the year 2014

Coal quality monitoring specialist Bretby Gammatech is celebrating after winning the highly sought after ‘Small Business of the Year’ award and its shortlisting for the ‘Best Use of Innovation or Technology’ and ‘Business of the Year’ award at the Burton Mail Awards 2014 in Derbyshire. The announcement was made at a special event at Burton Albion FC’s Pirelli Stadium recently, where General Manager Gary Wain was presented with the award on behalf of the company by Dave Bryon, Director of the awards.

Bretby Gammatech was recognised for its ambitious expansion plans and for its success in securing major business opportunities in many different international markets.
The company is a leading manufacturer of ash monitoring equipment that uses natural gamma radiation to test the quality of coal with 99% accuracy and without the need for laboratory testing. The company’s products are sold to the international mining industry, in countries such as Turkey, Kazakhstan and Vietnam.

Gary Wain, General Manager of Bretby Gammatech, said “We are all delighted by our win, it is great recognition of the hard work and efforts of our team to become the market leader. We are constantly innovating within our range to pioneer the use of the latest technology to make our equipment even more user friendly and to be able to integrate with IT systems to enable online monitoring.  This is a very exciting time for our business, as we have ambitious plans to expand into even more international markets.”

Dave Bryon, Director of the Burton Mail Awards, said: “We were delighted to see engineering and manufacturing featuring highly with notable successes for Bretby Gammatech and others.”

Bretby Gammatech recently celebrated its 20th anniversary with an event that saw South Derbyshire MP Heather Wheeler perform the official ‘switch on’ of the new Eye Graffix software. Set to revolutionise the company’s online systems, this latest innovation has opened up further markets by providing remote access and greater functionality of its existing products.

Bretby Gammatech was founded by four former British Coal staff back in 1994, who developed an Ash Probe that could be plunged into piles or trucks of coal to monitor the ash content, using natural gamma techniques which has huge health and safety and cost benefits over other methods.  Over the last 20 years, the company has innovated within its range and added a number of new products. In 2012 it became part of the President Engineering Group (PEGL), which has enabled it to further exploit opportunities internationally.  The company supplies its technology to all the major mining markets across the UK.
